Reinventing a Historic Place
Built in the 16th century, the Château de Malherbes has always been a discreet gem of Bordeaux. Today, we pay tribute to this heritage while reinventing it for tomorrow: restoration of the vineyards, modernization of the cellars, and a new vision of a place where history, nature, and innovation engage in harmony.
Our History
The history of the Château de Malherbes begins in 1389, when the estate was founded by Guilhem de Malherbes, a knight who returned from the Crusades at the end of the 14th century.
Perched on the sun-drenched hills of Latresne, overlooking the Garonne, he had a property built that was meant to endure through the centuries.
By the 16th century, the vineyard was already thriving here, nourished by a unique terroir and the dedication of generations of winemakers. The tradition took root, and wine became the very soul of Malherbes.
Over the generations, Malherbes passed through the hands of several noble families.
From the 17th to the 19th century, notarial archives allow us to trace the various owners of the estate - a history closely linked to the reigns of the kings of France, including Louis XVI. Through these changes, one thing remained constant:
The vineyards of Malherbes and their reputation for producing elegant Bordeaux wines.
